Chocobo on the Loose!

Hey, what're you starin' at? Haven't ya ever seen a chocobo before?
Chocobos may be tame creatures now, but they originally came from the wild.
La Theine was once covered in wild chocobos. Flocks of 'em used to dart about the plains.
That's why they love it when you take 'em back there. It runs through their blood.
Chocobo:Kweh! Looks like it's feedin' time.
It looks like the chocobo wants to venture outside town...
Sneak the chocobo outside?

  • Free the chocobo!
Whew, these chocobos always act like they're starving...
    ...What's this?
One of the chocobos is gone!
I never thought I'd see the day!
Could he have understood what we were talking about earlier?
That chocobo always was a smart one. I wouldn't be surprised if he did understand, and went off in search of his wild companions...
But wild chocobos don't exist anymore.
That chocobo was raised in a stable. He doesn't realize how harsh the world out there is! What if he were attacked by some despicable creature?
Please help me bring him back!
  • No. Think of Brutus!
    Chocobo: Kweh...
Chocobo's Wounds

What's your problem? You wanna ride a chocobo?
You wanna ride a chocobo?

  • I sure do!
Of course ya do! Nowadays everyone wants to ride a chocobo! Why, this is a golden opportunity for you to step into the wide, wonderful world of avian delight...
Then again, you young people have a tendency to throw creatures away without a moment's thought. That's why there're more chocobos living out in the wild now than I ever dreamed of as a kid. You wouldn't dream of commiting such a terrifyin' act though, would ya?
Have you ever abandoned a chocobo?
  • Yes, I have.
You can't fool me. I know a good kid when I see one. The eyes give it away.
  • No, never
    Of course you wouldn't!
Still, I can't grant you permission to ride so easily. The Vana'diel Chocobo Society'd never allow it.
I've got it... See that fine creature over yonder? If she takes to you, I'll let you ride her. Good luck, kid.
  • Not now.
'Zat so? I guess it wouldn't hurt to give it a try, now would it?
Path of the Beastmaster

Brutus: Why, howdy there! How you been, huh? You look fit as a fiddle! So, what can I...
Oskar: Master!
Brutus: Hey, what do you think you're...
Oskar: Look, he's afraid of you!
Chocobo: Kweh!!!
Oskar: Wait... He's happy about something. What could this mean?
Dietmund: There you are... Thank you! You're the reason my son's recovered.
I beat you and whipped you for so long. Why did you decide to help me?
Do you understand me? No, I can't thank you enough for all you've done for me. I truly thank you.
And you, too! Thanks.
I'm a beastmaster no more. But I bet you can become a great beastmaster if you keep at it.
And I'm sorry I said those things to you before.
Brutus: Hey, don't worry about it.
Dietmund: I'm not worthy of chocobos anymore. Please, take care of him for me.
Brutus: You got it. He'll grow up big and strong.
Dietmund: You stay right there.
Chocobo: Kweh!!!
Kweh!!!
Brutus: Mark my words. Someday, he'll come back for his chocobo.
And the chocobo will gladly go with him. After all, he's a beastmaster.
All's well that ends well, right? Now you can call yourself a beastmaster. Stand tall, kiddo!
You can now become a beastmaster.

Wings of Gold

Brutus:So, how ya been? What, do I look sad? Well, one of my chocobos passed away.
No, don't worry. It wasn't the one you saved. He's still kickin'!
It was the oldest bird in my flock. I got her way back when I was just learning, like you are now.
She was getting up there, after all. It's so sad to see one of your own go. You're a beastmaster. You understand, right?
Oh, that's right! If you're looking for work, I've got something for ya! I need someone to get Guiding bell from Delkfutt's Tower.
They say that a chocobo who wears one will go straight to Paradise. I never believe in such things except in times like these!
Do you accept?

  • Of course I do.
Thanks! I'm so sad over her death that I can't even muster the will to get out there myself.
  • Well, not right now.
Don't worry about it. Come back if you change your mind.

Brutus: Now we're talking! This'll make the chocobo's spirit happy! Here, this is all I have to give.
She may be gone, but her memory will always be here with us.

Scattered into Shadow

Brutus: Hello there! You gettin' along with your animals? Of course you are! I can tell just by lookin' at ya!
Matter of fact, I got something else I wanna ask ya. Just listen, okay?
You know about the war twenty years ago, right? They called up all kinds of animals for duty, and a lot of 'em didn't make it.
So, to help calm their spirits, I want you to find three ponds in Fei'Yin. Once there, toss an aquaflora into each one of 'em.
What do you say? It's all we can do to help the spirits of the fallen beasts rest in peace.
Well? How 'bout it?

  • I'll do it.
I thought you'd say that. Here, take these. And remember, this is serious business!
  • No, I'm too busy right now.
Well, you already know it won't be easy, so I can't make ya go, kiddo. I don't know any other beastmasters to turn to!

Brutus: Why, thanks a gillion! I'm sure the spirit of that fallen animal can rest peacefully now.
What, you saw a ghost there? In a place like that?
Oh, yeah... I heard somethin' strange while you were away... Somethin' about the ghost of an Opo-opo in Castle Oztroja.
They say that it doesn't attack, so maybe it was domesticated before it died. As a beastmaster you wanna know more, right?
Maybe it is one that died in the war... I'd be grateful if you could go look into that. I'll have a reward for you when you get back.

Brutus: So, did that ghost finally go to rest? That's good. Here, I want you to have this.
But I still wonder... What was that Opo-opo spirit doing there?
